The photo of young Daniel Cabrera studying at night outside a McDonald’s in the Philippines wasn’t the kind of viral activity they wanted to see around their brand. So officials there are stepping up for the 9-year-old.

The Huffington Post reports McDonald’s Philippines is giving him a scholarship to cover his school expenses, like supplies and his uniform, all the way through 12th grade.
”As Filipinos, we are proud to meet a boy so determined to succeed in life,” Kenneth Yang, McDonald’s Philippines president and CEO said in a release. “It is with an open heart that we grant him a scholarship to help him achieve his goals.”
Daniel will even get a monthly allowance from the chain. He’s promising he’ll study even harder. Meanwhile, the Ronald McDonald Charities (whose largest corporate donor is the Filipino company), will bring its reading program to first-graders at Daniel’s school and train teachers to facilitate it.
”Our family can’t be more thankful for all the support given to us,” mother Christina Cabrera said in the release. “As a mother, my main priority is really for my children to finish their studies.”
