Hellwig had recently returned from a series of appearances at WWE events, his first such appearances in almost two decades. On Saturday night, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame which he headlined.

After years out of the limelight, the charismatic and often unhinged Hellwig returned to the WWE to celebrate his legacy and “bury the hatchet” with fans, wrestlers and owners.

Given the recent good tidings surrounding his appearances, Hellwig’s death has left wrestling fans around the world in shock.

In his final public appearance, only hours before his death, Warrior spoke about death and his legacy on WWE’s Monday Night Raw.

“You will decide if they lived with passion and intensity — so much so that you will tell your stories and you will make them legends, as well. Ultimate. You are the Ultimate Warrior fans. And the spirit of Ultimate Warrior will run forever,” he said.

Hellwig was 54.
