It used to be a fair challenge. Helicopters are large, have limited fuel, and can’t go to certain places. Police cars have to stick to roads. It wasn’t guaranteed, but with a bit of quick thinking and some street knowledge, a would be criminal could sometimes escape, even on foot.

- As police technology progresses and the use of drones becomes more commonplace, the chances of not being surveilled will decrease. Drones are remarkably cheap pieces of equipment and easy to deploy.
- In this case, the drone was used to stop a perp. But the technology is still a bit scary, especially about how it may be used in an authoritarian government. Today it’s a fast-moving criminal, tomorrow someone will be peaking through your curtains, making sure you’re not using profanities.
