According to a report by CNN, Delta Air Lines Flight 1893 departed from Orlando International Airport en route to Austin-Bergstrom International on Tuesday. However, tensions rose in the cabin when a passenger noticed a piece of the wing had partially broken.
The outlet spoke with Shanila Arif, a passenger. They reportedly told CNN, “We felt it was bad turbulence. The plane was shaking. The lady in front of us opened the window and told us it is broken. I opened the window and got scared.” Arif reportedly told the outlet she was worried the piece may come loose, hit the tail, and cause a crash.
Atlanta News First shared a short video of what passengers saw when they looked out the window. A panel at the back of the plane wing appears to be breaking off, loosely flapping in the wind. The damage worsens by the time the Boeing 737 lands and looks badly bent as the aircraft touches down.
Delta Airlines Released A Statement Regarding The Incident
Per FOX 13, Delta addressed the incident in a statement, noting authorities took the plane out of service. “After DL 1893 landed safely and without incident in Austin, it was observed that a portion of the left wing’s flap was not in place. The aircraft has been taken out of service for maintenance. We apologize to our customers for their experience, as nothing is more important than the safety of our people and customers,” they reportedly said.
CNN reveals that the plane was carrying 62 passengers and six crew members at the time. Nobody was injured.
Earlier this month, shocked passengers on board a Condor Airlines plane noticed that one of the engines appeared to be spitting out flames. The aircraft was airborne at the time, but people on the ground could see and hear the malfunction. One passenger told German outlet Frankfurter Rundschau, “It was an incredibly bad experience. I have already sent a farewell SMS because I thought it was over now”.
The issue forced the plane to land in Italy instead of its intended destination, Düsseldorf. Passengers had to wait until the following day to complete their journey.
