Melodee Buzzard, a 9-year-old girl from California, has not been seen in a year. Authorities have since discovered that the young girl had taken a road trip with her “mentally unstable” mother.

The Details: Melodee has been missing for over a year. Yet the NY Post reported that she was not declared missing until last week.
- A school official reported the young girl’s absence. This occurred after the homeschooled girl had not checked in with the district for some time. Specifically, she had not checked in since October of last year.
- A recent update shared that the missing girl was on a 1,500-mile road trip with her mother.
- Reports also indicate that the mother is “mentally unstable” and is being “uncooperative” with authorities.
Missing Little Girl On Road Trip With ‘Mentally Unstable’ Mother
The NY Post shared that the missing little girl was spotted on a road trip with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, “as recently as Oct. 7, mysteriously driving as far as Nebraska in a rental car.” While the pair was spotted multiple times making stops, there is little information on where they are heading.
Family of Melodee’s expressed their concerns on Facebook, arguing that her mother is “mentally unstable.” When speaking with KSBY, Lizabeth Meza, Melodee’s aunt, said the following.
- “We haven’t seen her in over four years due to the mother not allowing the family to see her.”
Furthermore, Meza shared the daunting news that her brother, Melodee’s father, died in a tragic car crash when Melodee was just six months old.
The Hunt Continues: Police arrived at Melodee’s home after receiving the alarming alert from the school district. However, Melodee was nowhere to be seen. While they were previously unable to confirm any sightings of her, they recently admitted she may have been spotted in August of 2025.
So far, Ashlee Buzzard has been uncooperative with law enforcement, and the sheriff’s office claims she “has not provided detectives with any information about Melodee’s current location or condition.”
Police are desperately trying to find her with one goal in mind: to ensure that she is safe and cared for.
