An 11-year-old was reportedly injured while trying to protect her mom from her dad. He also injured several of the mom’s family members in a frenzied attack.

What happened: According to a report by WPXI, the incident occurred on Sunday at around 12:30 at a residence in Redstone Township. Officers responded to a “domestic-related stabbing incident.”
- Authorities reportedly believe that Richard Hall entered his in-laws’ home uninvited. He then began stabbing his estranged wife in the chest. The Observer-Reporter explains that Hall is 33 years old. He allegedly accessed the building by smashing through the rear glass door.
- The outlet names his estranged wife as Amanda Diehl. She was reportedly hiding in a bedroom with her daughter. Police reportedly said that Hall hit Diehl in the face before stabbing her multiple times. The 11-year-old girl dove on top of her to protect her, and Hall stabbed her in the arm during the attack.
The Girl’s Actions May Have Saved Her Mom
Not the first time: Per WPXI, Fayette County District Attorney Michael Aubele believes the 11-year-old’s heroic actions saved her mom’s life.
- “This 11-year-old girl threw herself on top of her mother and probably prevented her from being killed,” he reportedly said. “It’s not the first time she’s protected her mother from this man. I can’t say enough about what she did,” he added.
- According to the Observer-Reporter, Diehl’s parents intervened during the alleged attack. Hall reportedly punched and stabbed the mom’s father. Diehl’s mother also reportedly suffered a laceration to her arm.
- Per WPXI, emergency services transported five people to the hospital and treated another at the scene. Authorities expect them all to recover. The fifth victim was allegedly Hall himself, who suffered a self-inflicted injury.
- Aubele stated, “There’s absolutely no excuse for what happened yesterday, regardless of what issues you have in your marriage. It’s not an excuse to stab four people.” Per CBS News, police declared the stabbing an “isolated incident,” stressing there was no threat to the public.
- Per the Observer-Reporter, police are charging Hall with multiple offenses, including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, and criminal trespass.
