Here’s what Derickson wrote on Facebook:

Just witnessed this young man working at Walmart help pay for a elderly couples groceries because they didn’t have enough money. I was minding my own business and didn’t even realize what was going on until he had his wallet out and using his debit card!! I’m still shocked. I didnt now what to say to him as he checked me out. I paid for my stuff and i think I ended up saying thank you that was very nice!!

Other Walmart customers commented on the Facebook post, saying it’s not the first time Zimmerman has helped a customer in need.

Zimmerman told KCAU that he’s no hero, he’s just doing what his parents taught him to do when he encounters people in need.

“[My] parents have always said it’s just what your supposed to do, you know. If someone is just in that small of a pickle, might as well. Kind of live life just by like help other people and I just believe in common human decency,” he said.

People couldn’t help but express their feelings about the act of kindness.

“Wow! Not only does this kid have great morals and values he also has a job while in high school which is becoming very rare these days. His parents should be very proud!” one wrote.

“So much kindness! Not just the young man who helped out the elderly couple… but, also the young man who spoke up, and gave recognition to the good deed…. two guys with good hearts!” wrote another.

“God bless him and the parents that raised him! There are good people in the world and I am so glad to see this in the news! There’s too much negativity today! This is awesome!” wrote a third.
