When an Uber is just too expensive, stealing an electric shopping cart from a shopping center might seem like a valid option. A Floridian woman found out that it isn’t.

The electric shopping carts provided by many stores are supposed to be used only inside the store. Sure, they’ll work out on the streets, but it’s usually understood, like parking, they’re designed for customers.
GTA: But Robin Zick, 42, of Punta Gorda, was in a bit of a pickle. She had a doctor’s appointment to attend and no car. She didn’t want to pay for a taxi, and public transport is gross. So, she went to her local Publix instead. She thought that stealing an electric shopping cart for the afternoon might be a good idea.
- So, she popped in, sat herself down on one of them, and drove it straight out the door. She made pretty good headway before the police caught up with her as well.
A Slow Getaway
The manager of the Publix called the police to report the woman seen stealing the electric shopping cart. They set out looking for her, and it didn’t take long before she turned up. They found her parked at a Circle K gas station on South Tamiami Trail.
Just a Loaner: The police pulled the lady over and asked what she thought she was doing. She replied that she needed a ride to an appointment and didn’t have a car. She was fully intending to return the electric cart to Publix once she was done with it.
- Sadly, though, that’s not how things work. Despite her honest intentions and genuine reasons for the loan, it still counts as theft. She was charged with grand theft, which is a hilarious thing to have on a criminal record for what she had done.
Aftercare: The police didn’t ignore the fact that she was heading to a medical appointment, though. After all, she was still in need. Zick was taken to the hospital, where she received the medical attention she had been so desperate to get to.
On her release, she was arrested by the police.
