Music has always been a political tool. People use it to voice their feelings about all sorts of issues, rallying like-minded folks behind them. It’s a powerful way to give people a voice and delve into what they want and need.
But the instruments are usually played when making these political points. A man in Waikiki, Hawaii, kind of missed the point and instead used his guitar to hit a police officer. Hard-hitting music indeed.
Sick Riffs: According to police documents, the 37-year-old man from Hawaii first hit the police officer with his fist, and then with the guitar. He was then, unsurprisingly, arrested. The police officer in question received injuries and is being treated in a local hospital.

Consequences of action: The police weren’t a fan of the man’s guitar-playing skills and slapped him with an $8,000 bail. He has also been charged with first-degree assault. Assaulting a police officer is never going to end well. He could have at least tried to diffuse the situation with some calming music.
- Instead, at 5.30 am, the man from Hawaii got into a fight with a police officer, hitting him with his guitar. It’s hardly the coolest thing to do. Guitars, although club-shaped, shouldn’t be disrespected in that way. Nothing so beautiful should be used as an offensive weapon against a cop.
In the future, I would recommend that the man try to pen some music that helps defuse situations. He could put his anguish and woes about the police in Hawaii into a song rather than using his guitar to attack them physically.
Now, he will face charges for his outburst and have to pay a fine to boot. Attacking a police officer is never going to go well, be it with a guitar or any other type of instrument.
