While filming her new movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Jennifer Lopez split from Ben Affleck. The high-profile relationship had already been making headlines. But, out of respect, most reporters would leave the recent heartache out while talking about something unrelated.
Get A Load of This Guy: It was during the Today show that Craig Melvin blindsided Jennifer Lopez about her Affleck situation.
- “In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce was also finalized with Ben,” he threw her way.
- “There you go! Look at this guy!” she shot back. She wasn’t about to let him derail the interview and get into her personal life. She was there, on the daily show, to talk about her role in the musical. She wasn’t about to spill the beans on her divorce from the actor turned producer.
But, as the host shamefacedly pointed out, there was some relevance.
Professional Problems
The reporter wasn’t entirely out of line with their question. Although Jennifer Lopez was there to talk about the film, Affleck was involved. He clarified the reason for his question by highlighting that Affleck was the producer of the new musical movie.
A Big Hand: Ben Affleck is the executive producer of the upcoming movie, and without him, Lopez states, it wouldn’t have been made. She gives him his due credit.
- “If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have gotten made. And I will always give him that credit.” But, she kept her mouth closed on their divorce; only adding that, “And yeah, things happen, you have to keep going.”
This isn’t Jennifer Lopez’ first time face-to-face with an intrusive reporter. She’s been on the scene for long enough to be able to field someone trying their luck at a bit of juicy gossip. I imagine she has had more PR training than most, and she’s not about to fall for those kinds of tricks.
