It’s always fun to wonder what country couples do to keep their love alive and relationships healthy. We can imagine what they fight about, laugh about and just talk about over morning coffee.

Keith Urban has taken some of the wonder out of what his conversations are like with wife Nicole Kidman. It turns out, the truth is in his current romantic toe-tapper, “The Fighter,” a song that came to him in one of the least romantic places in the world — an Uber.

In an interview with “Billboard,” Keith talked about how his wife inspired the tune.

“It’s all from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her,” Keith says. “The song is about wanting to heal somebody, wanting to take care of somebody, wanting to protect somebody. It’s really like a vow in so many ways.”

So, the idea for “The Fighter” was there, but the challenge was to craft those thoughts and feelings into a lyrical and magical verse. As any songwriter will tell you, that inspiration can strike anywhere and at anytime. On a drive to the studio while listening to the song “Marvin Gaye” by Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor, it hit him… right in the backseat of his Uber.

“I thought I’d love to write a duet that is more of the girl asking something and the guy answering,” he says. “I like that back and forward, a little bit like ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ or ‘Paradise by the Dashboard Light’ — really more of a conversation.”

Keith finished the song with songwriter-producer busbee. While we’ve all been enjoying it on iTunes and hearing it loud and clear on country radio, we got the sweet treat of watching Keith and Carrie perform it together on this year’s Grammy Awards. Now, both of the country stars have been announced as performers at the upcoming ACM Awards, but no one has confirmed what they’ll be performing or if they’ll be collaborating again. Fingers crossed!
