Don’t miss these five must-see moments from the broadcast:
1. Viola Davis makes history, gives powerful speech. The “How to Get Away With Murder” star became the first African-American woman to win the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama.
In her emotional acceptance speech, she quoted Harriet Tubman: “I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful, white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.”
Davis added, “The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.”

2. Tracy Morgan makes surprise appearance. The comedian, who has avoided the limelight after his 2014 car accident, triumphantly returned to the stage to present the award for Outstanding Drama Series.
“Last year, Jimmy Kimmel stood on the stage and said, ‘We’ll see you back here next year, Tracy Morgan,'” Morgan said. “Well, Jimmy, thanks to my amazing doctors, the support of my family, and my beautiful wife, I’m here.”
He received a standing ovation.

“There has been a terrible mistake, clearly,” he joked. “Thank you for that.”
He added, “This is impossible. It’s impossible to be named with all of those extraordinary gentlemen. It’s impossible to be standing up here. It’s impossible to have done this show with this incredible cast, with these incredible people, these incredible writers, our incredible crew.”
4. Amazon’s “Transparent” nabs groundbreaking wins, calls attention to transgender equality. Director Jill Soloway won the award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, while Jeffrey Tambor took home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy.
During her acceptance speech, Soloway urged the audience to support equal rights for the transgender community.
“We don’t have a trans tipping point yet; we have a trans civil rights problem,” she said.
