A Michigan teacher wades into controversy after sending a letter home to parents about Trump’s inauguration

A Michigan teacher’s pedagogy is being criticized after he sent home a letter to parents saying he will not play Friday’s inauguration speech for students. He made it clear in the letter that he will show the inauguration, but not the president-elect’s speech, which Trump reportedly wrote himself.

The teacher said he is “concerned about my students and your children being exposed to language and behavior that is not in concert with the most conservative social and family values.”

One of the parents posted the letter to Facebook, and it has gotten quite a bit of attention.

In her presidential campaign, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton ran an ad entitled “Role Models” which featured children in front of a television while Trump was on the screen, making statements like “and you can tell them to go f*** themselves.”

Politico noted that Trump’s “hot mic” statements were reported by the Times, and it was the first time in 165 years that the paper printed the word “pussy.”
