In the event you weren’t aware, Cameron Diaz retired from acting a few years ago. Or so we thought.

Actually, we thought that because it’s what she told us. But hey, everyone is allowed to change their minds, and Diaz is very clearly exercising that right,
It’s true, as she is set to star alongside Jamie Foxx in a Netflix comedy entitled Back in Action. A fitting tile for Diaz, who is returning to the screen for the first time in eight years.
This won’t be the first for Diaz and Foxx, of course. They worked together in Any Given Sunday back in 1999, and then again in Annie in 2014. The latter was the last time Diaz appeared in anything, actually.
And if you think Diaz’s retirement last only slightly longer than the month-long hiatus of NFL quarterback Tom Brady — well, you’re not far off. Those two things may actually be related, as several entertainment insiders have suggested Diaz was inspired by Brady, as well as Foxx, of course.
“Cameron is such an incredible force and she has done so much in this business,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “We love her. We had to be very innovative in how we, you know, brought her back.”
Foxx said he told Diaz: “‘Do you wanna have some fun? Just have some fun!’ And I think that’s what brought her to it.”
Diaz’s return to acting won’t be the only milestone she reaches this month. She also turns 50 on August 30.
