We all know that weddings can be expensive. Between getting to the destination, finding the perfect attire, and getting the couple a gift, it can truly burn a hole in your pocket. However, one couple took their expenses to the extreme. A couple’s wedding sparks outrage online after people learn that they shamelessly asked the bridal party to spend a fortune on outrageous things.

The Details: A user shared a horrendous experience of being in a bridal party in a Reddit post. The story was shared at r/weddingshaming and quickly gained a lot of attention.
- The individual sharing the post is a bridesmaid in the wedding.
- The bride is a childhood friend of hers, and she was unaware of these bizarre details when she initially accepted the invitation.
- The bride and groom are asking all of the bridal party to stay at their venue the entire week leading up to the wedding, as well as pay their own way to the venue and their entire stay at the venue.
Wedding Sparks Outrage Online After Shameless Request
On October 3, a Reddit user shared her story about her friend’s shameless request for her wedding. She first began by sharing the challenges of the chosen location.
- “They chose a venue that is 7 hours away from the state most of us live in,” she shared.
- Also, “It is a far flight from the rest of the bride and groom’s family.”
- To make matters even more challenging, it is in a location that you cannot directly fly to. Thus, it means “everyone must drive or rent cars at the nearest airport, which is upwards of 2 hours away.”
However, a difficult venue location was the least of this woman’s complaints. You would assume that if your venue were so challenging for your guests to get to, you would do everything in your power to accommodate your guests in every other area. Apparently, this bride did not get the memo.
Besides asking her bridal party to travel far and wide to their venue, the bride also expected them to dedicate a shameless amount of time and money to the event.
- “They decided to rent a big house as opposed to a more traditional venue because big homes are popular where they are getting married,” the woman shared.
- “They are asking every family member and member of the wedding party to stay for the whole week leading up to the wedding in the house that will be the venue.”
But Wait, There’s More
As if asking for an entire week of your time weren’t shameless enough, the couple is also demanding that everyone pay for their own stay.
- “On top of requesting everyone to stay for the week, they are also asking everyone to pay for their stay in the house.”
- “They are charging couples $1200 for the stay and single people $600.”
- “Essentially, they are making everyone pay for their venue.”
To add insult to injury, the bride also refused this woman the right to a plus one. Which is unfortunate all on its own, but it’s even worse after she revealed she has no friends at the wedding—effectively telling this woman that she expects her to spend a week of her time alone at her wedding.
The Internet Rages
After learning the details of the event, the wedding sparks outrage across the internet. Many people rushed to the complainer’s defense, telling her that her feelings are valid. Not only that, but many people suggested pulling out of the wedding entirely. Here are some of the comments that were left on the thread.
- “Demanding everyone stay in their designated venue for a week is ridiculous, and expecting you to just hang out by yourself the whole time is inconsiderate. “
- “I would decline and step away from being a bridesmaid. This is frankly outrageous. A complete grift.”
- “At this point I would bow out and say due to the expectations being put upon the bridal party, I am unable to participate at this time and say you’re looking forward to celebrating with them in other ways/at the actual wedding date.”
