Maybe the bald Eagle was just showing off, boasting that he didn’t pay an expensive ticket to fly anywhere in the world.

Whatever the reason, at least he passed the security check at Charlotte Douglas International before taking flight.

And actually, the massive bald eagle named Clark was at the airport for a reason, with TSA Southeast spokesperson Mark Howell passing along pictures and an explanation.

TSA officers are used to seeing an eagle on their uniform as they look over their shoulder, but I’m sure the team at @CLTAirport Checkpoint A did a double take when they saw a real one earlier this week.,” Howell tweeted.

He then added a little clarification.

“Our special guest was Clark the Eagle with the World Bird Sanctuary, who decided to give his wings a break and fly commercial. His airline notified us and we screened him and his handler,” he wrote. “Clark is trained to spread his wings, and even showed off a bit during screening.”

Just a Regular Day at The Airport

Clark, 19, weighs more than 7 pounds and has a wingspan of more than 6 feet, USA Today reported. he was flying back home after an appearance at High Point University’s Convocation Ceremony in North Carolina.

“He flies for High Point University’s graduation ceremony, incoming freshman ceremony, and Veteran’s Day ceremony every year. It’s a great experience!” handler Daniel Cone told USA Today.

Cone added that he and Clark know each other well.

“I have worked with Clark for 16 years now. I started with him when I was 13 (as a volunteer) and he was 3. We kind of grew up together,” Cone said.

7 Pound Eagle

In other words, it sounds as if Clark is able to fly like an eagle several times a year. Or more accurately, like a regular airline passenger.
