WSFA reports motorist Raenetta Burch Bennett snapped a picture of Trooper Delvyon Williams on an off-ramp Sunday after she saw Williams bring meals to a father and son on the roadside. She had been worried he was going to arrest the pair, who had a sign reading “money or food.” Her picture has gone viral from Alabama all the way to national media.

“I just simply snapped a picture not thinking it would go viral or that it would get as big as it has,” Bennett said. “It was just me taking a picture because it touched me. We don’t have as many genuine people out here these days so for it to be a state trooper who did the act of kindness, you know, hats off to him.”

Williams didn’t know he was being photographed, but said he was just doing his job. When he stopped for a simple welfare check, the son telling him he was hungry made him think of his own son, he said. So he returned with a meal.

“It’s all been really good but this is the stuff we do every day working as a state trooper in Alabama,” Williams said. “We get people gas and help change tires so this is not out of the norm just luckily somebody caught it and I appreciate them catching the good things that we do. Being an officer, we have a lot of negativity and this is positive for us, a positive outlook.”
