For the first time in nearly six years, Britney Spears released a song. And not just any song — more like a collaboration with no less than Sir Elton John.

How’s that for a comeback?

The Spears- and-John single is called Hold Me Closer, which is a new version of Tiny Dancer, John’s smash hit, originally released 50 years ago.

Hold Me Closer

Interscope Records had initially revealed that the single will be available on Aug. 26, and per Billboard, will be produced by Emmy winner Andrew Watt.

“While Hold Me Closer marks Watt’s first time working with Spears, the songwriter and producer previously worked with John on six songs from the singer’s 2021 collaboration album The Lockdown Sessions, including a new version of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters with Miley Cyrus, Yo-Yo Ma, Robert Trujillo and Chad Smith,” Billboard noted.

The announcement on Hold Me Closer comes just a few weeks after Spears revealed a more emotional version of her hit, Baby One More Time, on Instagram.

Britney’s Spears Iconic Single

With all this in mind, is a new studio album in the works for Britney? Well, it doesn’t seem like it. Not yet.

Per PopSugar.com:

“The pop star hasn’t shared any plans to return to the recording studio, but in 2021, a source told People that Spears would like to release another album one day. The source explained that while she ‘loves creating music and wants to give her fans a new album,’ the singer ‘is focusing on one thing at a time.'”

Editors Note: This article was originally released on August 19, 2022. It was updated on August 26 after the release of the single.
