Kleptomaniac Pup Goes Viral
Cathy Hoyt shared the story of how she got Duke with People Magazine. When she was planning to adopt him from the rescue shelter, they warned her of his item-stealing habits. Hoyt opted to give it a test run, and Duke did not disappoint. Even during his trial with his new forever family, he started getting into mischief. Luckily for him, his kleptomaniac ways did nothing to deter Hoyt from adopting him.
Now, the golden retriever mom shares hilarious videos of her kleptomaniac pup on Instagram. Not only does he like to steal random objects around the home, but he also takes them to bed to snuggle with them. When speaking with the outlet, Hoyt shared how his naughty antics began to spiral.
- “The first item he took was my glasses,” Hoyt says. “He soon became focused on books and magazines. Before we knew it, he began to steal china from my credenza. Plates, teapots, sugar bowls, creamers, and ceramic bells became his items of choice.”

With 169k followers on Instagram, it is clear that the internet is head over heels for Duke. One fan favorite video showed him stealing a Halloween pumpkin and bringing it to bed. Various other videos showed him taking his mom’s Halloween decor from around the house and cozying up with it.
Regardless of the item, Duke’s approach is always the same. Enter into stealth mode, snag the household item, and return to bed to snuggle up with it.
