Cash’s sense of humor was in full affect!

We’re not sure what we love more about this clip: Johnny Cash or Johnny Cash doing his best Elvis impression.

First off, black and white clips make us feel good. It was a simpler time that those who were there tend to miss greatly. And then there is the legendary Cash, who back in 1959, was just a budding 27-year-old country music star basking in the success of number one hits such as “I Walk the Line,” “Don’t Take Your Guns to Town,” and “There You Go.”

On this particular night, Cash’s sense of humor was in full affect when he attempted his own impersonation of The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. “We had a request tonight to do an impersonation of a rock and roll singer,” he told the crowd that seemed mostly filled with screaming girls. “This is an impersonation of a rock and roll singer impersonating Elvis is what this really is.”

And with a shake of the hips and a comb down of his hair, Cash proceeded to tear into the opening lines of Elvis’ huge hit “Heartbreak Hotel.”
