He was seeking to appeal to conservatives and Evangelical Christan voters, who are a key group within the Republican Party’s coalition. During his time as president, Trump highly sought to please Evangelicals, including by nominating Supreme Court justices that were willing to overturn Roe v. Wade. Trump succeeded, stripping away several reproductive rights for women across the country.

Freedom Fest is usually held in Morningview, Kentucky, and featured several other conservative speers including Candace Owens, Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Gilfoyle. Eric spoke, praising his father for “standing up for religious liberty.”

“In fighting for religious liberty, there’s no one that’s done more for Christianity than Donald Trump. No one,” he stated. The video of his speech was quickly posted on social media by attorney Ron Filipkoski. He usually monitors several controversial statements made by conservatives. The video has now gained more than a million views.

As expected Twitter didn’t agree with Eric’s remarks with several mocking both him and his father. One user wrote, “Yep. The thrice married, serial philander who mocked the disabled and bragged about sexual assault is the champion for Christianity. The guy who can’t quote a single verse, the guy who upside down shook a Bible that wasn’t his in front of a church he didn’t attend. Yep, that guy.”

Another one wrote, “The only thing he’s done is prove that some so called religious people and organizations will overlook anything he’s ever said or done in order to get what they’re after.”

Twitter Blasts Eric Trump

Representative Adam Kinzinger went on to retweet the now-viral video, with the caption, “Jesus? Billy Graham?” Kinzinger was a vocal critic of Trump after the January 6, 2021 Capitol Riot. He was also one of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump and now sits on the congressional committee. They are currently investigating Trump’s election fraud claims.

Democratic strategists Jesse Ferguson also mocked Eric, writing, “12 apostles have entered the chat.” Ferguson is a Democratic strategist who served as Hillary Clinton’s deputy press secretary during her 2016 presidential campaign.
