Believe it or not, our live-action Lumière has never seen the original animated film!

On “The Late Show” Monday, actor Ewan McGregor stunned everyone, even the host, with that shocking confession.

“We did the balls thing for a day, just to get my movements, so Lumière could feel a bit like me, I guess,” McGregor said. “Then I recorded my dialogue with Sir Ian McKellen. We did it together in a recording studio. He plays the clock — Cogsworth? Thank God you were here, because I couldn’t remember his name.”

“I have children. You have four daughters, right?” Colbert quipped. “Surely you knew this musical before you took the job, right?”

Somehow, McGregor avoided the Disney musical, despite his eldest child being 21 and his youngest just 6. Colbert couldn’t believe it!

“How could you possibly avoid Disney?” Colbert exclaimed. “How did you escape from the black hole that is ‘Be Our Guest?'”

“I have never seen it, the original. Is it good?” McGregor asked. “It’s not because I didn’t want to. It’s just…I don’t know. It wasn’t one that they watched, I guess.”

But, it wasn’t a total loss. McGregor revealed a silver lining behind not seeing the film.

“It was quite handy, in a way, because when you’re going to play a part that’s so well known, it’s quite good if you don’t know it so it can be yours. I didn’t have to try and sound like the guy who did it in the cartoon in the ’90s,” he explained.
