On Saturday, women from all over the United States will gather in Washington, D.C. to march together inĀ order to “send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights.” However, after a recent action taken by the event’s organizers, many who planned on attending the march are up in arms.

The Women’s March on Washington released its Guiding Vision and Definition of Principles on Thursday, which included the names of several women whom they deemed “revolutionary leaders who paved the way for us to march.” Among those listed are familiar names of women who have fought for women’s rights throughout the history of our country. One name, however, was noticeably missing.
Hillary Clinton, the first woman to win the presidential nomination of a major political party and winner of the 2016 popular vote, was not included as a “revolutionary leader,” sparking outrage fromĀ people all over the nation, including many on the right. A Change.org petition to add Clinton to the list circulated quickly, arguing, “As activists and allies, we are dismayed that March organizers excluded Hillary Rodham Clinton as an honoree who has inspired women around the world to serve and to lead.”
Additionally, social media users began including the hashtag #AddHerName in their tweets and posts demanding that Clinton be formally recognized by the event.

Leaving Hillary Clinton off this list is further proof of how we tell women:

Adding fuel to the fire, many argued that the event even used a quote from Clinton when they included the sentence “Womenās Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Womenās Rights” to their Guiding Vision and Definition of Principles, but failed to acknowledge her.

While several celebrities have announced that they will be attending the march, Clinton herself has not.
