The latest example? Well, 20th Century Studios is aiming to make a reboot of the 1980s comedy flick Working Girl. This time, it may feature no less than Selena Gomez.
The original was released in 1988 and starred Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver and Melanie Griffith. IMDB described the plot as “When a secretary’s idea is stolen by her boss, she seizes an opportunity to steal it back by pretending she has her boss’ job.”
The original raked in more than $100 million at the box office.
As for the new one, or at least the new idea of one, it is not yet known if Gomez will star, produce, both, or do none of the above. All we know — or think we know — is it will be carried by Hulu.
Per Variety:
“Ilana Pena, who created the Disney+ series Diary of a Future President, is adapting the screenplay for the film, which is eyeing a release on Hulu. A director has not been announced. Casting has not been set, and it’s unclear if Gomez will star in the Working Girl remake in addition to serving as a producer.”
Gomez currently stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in Only Murders in the Building. She also serves as a producer for the show. Along with that, she recently starred in and produced the HBO Max reality series Selena + Chef.
