Just 30 miles from downtown, the bay-side area its close, and offers numerous of outdoor attractions, like wildlife parks and days on the water.

For a more educational trip, you can get your space on at the NASA Johnson Center.

You can even charter a boat in Kemah for a day of fishing and sun,  bird-watching or some gator-spotting – as long as you don’t get too close.

Speaking of fishing, the seafood scene in the bay is pretty legit.

Landry’s in Kemah and Outriggers in Seabrook both made Tripadvisor’s list of the ten best seafood restaurants in Bay Area Houston.

Not a seafood person? It’s Texas: there are plenty of burger and BBQ joints, as well.

After that, hit up the Kemah Boardwalk for rides, shopping and events, like Rock the Dock.

If you’re into history, be sure to visit the Bay Area Museum, or the San Jacinto monument and Battleship Texas-both relatively nearby in La Porte.

Of course, skipping the museums is always an option.  Why not just commune with nature?  There are plenty of parks and gardens that’ll let you do just that, like Stingray Reef in Kemah or Seabrook’s Clear Lake Park.
