4-Year-Old Given a Vasectomy Instead of Hernia Surgery

A 4-year-old boy was given an “accidental vasectomy” and now his family is suing. Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston saw the boy for a hernia surgery. But it seems like the surgeon didn’t know what the $%*& he was doing. Because now, that little boy may never be able to have children when he grows up.

The 4-year-old boy underwent surgery for a hernia in his groin. The surgeon instead cut one of the boy’s tubes. Sperm travel through the tubes. The boy may or may not be able to get this horrific mistake reversed. If not, he may not be able to ever have kids of his own.

The family’s attorney, Randy Sorrells, says that accidental vasectomies are NOT at all common:

“It’s not a common mistake at all… Before a doctor transects or cuts any part of the anatomy, they are supposed to positively identify what that anatomy is and then cut.”

Right. Surgeons are definitely supposed to know what part of the body they’re operating on before they cut it open or remove it.

To make matters worse, the attorney says that the 4-year-old boy has a new complaint of swelling on one side of his scrotum. The pain worsens later in the day.

Imagine having to deal with long term genital pain and possibly lifelong fertility issues at the age of four…

Because of an accidental vasectomy…

Sorrells told Fox News that, “”You expect things to happen in life, but not unnecessarily at the hands of a surgeon, who simply cut the wrong piece of anatomy. The surgeon, we think, cut accidentally the vas deferens, one of the tubes that carries reproductive semen in it. It could affect this young man for the rest of his life.”

Sorrells explains that the family is primarily concerned with the quality of the boy’s life in the future. “The family’s biggest concern is how this might affect their child physically, on the ability to have children in the future, and emotionally,” he says. “[Along with] having to explain this to a potential partner who you are going to have children with.”
