In terms of music, “playing naked” refers to a musician connecting so deeply with their performance that they get lost in the moment. Leave it to John Mayer to take the term literally — and to the extreme.

On Tuesday, the guitar god confessed on a podcast named Call Her Daddy that he sometimes strips down and straps on his instrument.’
Here’s the kicker: Mayer is only inclined to play music in the nude after he just had sex. Preferably with “a little gut hanging over,” he said.
Again, leave it to John Mayer.
It’s actually not that big of a surprise, as John Mayer doesn’t seem to have any qualms about showing his body on social media.
The new Call Her Daddy podcast episode isn’t on YouTube yet, nor are any clips. But RollingStone.com noticed Mayer’s remark and picked up the story.
John Mayer Is Serious About Playing Nude, Right?
We’re pretty sure Mayer told the truth on the podcast and wasn’t trying to fool anyone. Then again, he’s a master of deadpan jokes and his wry sense of humor.
Either way, a musician playing naked doesn’t automatically make them an egomaniac. Those who jump to that conclusion should consider that John Mayer launched The Heard and Armor Foundation, which supports military veterans, four years ago.
Lastly, John Mayer is a master guitar player as well. He’s so good that he plays alongside three former members of the Grateful Dead. They are guitarist/vocalist Bob Weir, and drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann. Those musicians are members of Dead & Company, a jam band whose name is self-explanatory.
The supergroup is planning its final tour, which will happen next summer, according to DeadandCompany.com.
