Twenty-year-old Jeffrey Jemaile Taylor, who was the father of Maria’s toddler daughter, is suspected of having killed the family before fleeing with the child, and eventually, turning the gun on himself.

Immediately after finding the bodies, police located the child inside a shed close to the apartment. Taylor’s half-brother Jeffery Arkis Taylor, 19, was found with her and was arrested. Police later found the child’s father dead near the scene and believe he orchestrated a murder-suicide.

“I was just devastated. I was surprised, I mean, as anybody would be,” said Pastor Paul Marzahn, a family friend. “It’s one thing to have a custody battle and argue about a child. It’s another thing to be that vindictive to take out a whole family.”

The suspect’s half-brother is now facing charges of kidnapping, aiding and abetting murder and attempted murder. Anita McIntosh is still in the hospital in critical condition.
