Did You Know Baskin Robbins’ Logo Has a Secret Message?

I love it when companies decide to have quirky and fun logos, especially if they have hidden messages behind them. Starbucks, 7-Eleven, and Kmart to name a few all have special messages behind them, that sometimes only true fans of the stores know.

Just like Baskin-Robbins, which is known for its delicious 31 flavors of ice cream and its pink spoons. But, did you know that the company logo actually has a hidden message behind it?

The History of Baskin Robbins

It all began after Bert Baskins opened up an ice cream shop in Glendale California back in 1945. Apparently, ice cream shops ran in the family so much that his brother-in-law Irv Robbins decided to open up one of his own in Pasadena. As expected they decided to merge the businesses together, creating Baskin Robbins in 1953.

Back then the shop offered a total of 31 flavors so that visitors could come back and always try a new one. Now I know what you’re thinking, 31 isn’t a lot. But, back in that time, it was very rare for ice cream shops to offer that amount of flavors. So much so that they wanted to brag about their decision in the logo.

So, they decided to include the 31 in their logo above “Baskin Robbins Ice Cream.” That said logo remained the signature look for Baskin-Robbins until 1991. The new image had the two names sandwich the number together. This is also when the company introduced the famous pink and blue color schemes.

A Modern Look

Fast-forward to 2016, they decided to give the logo a modern look but still wanted to include the number 31. Only this time they gave it a little twist, with the pink parts of the B and the R making up the number.

This year, the logo got a shocking makeover, after they decided to ditch the blue and go with brown. But what’s important is that the number is still there with the pink part of the letters staying the same. I personally like the blue better, but hey, sometimes you have to switch things up from time to time.

So, there you have it, your history lesson of the day. Now you have something to talk about at the dinner table.

What do you think?
