Kelsey Grammer Gives Update On Timeline For ‘Frasier’ Re-boot

Frasier is coming back, and now we seem to have a better idea of when, exactly.

That’s because Kelsey Grammer has offered an update. The wildly popular sitcom featured Grammer in the starring role as Frasier Crane and initially aired from 1993-2004. Paramount+ announced in 2021 that it’s returning, and Grammer has now confirmed, adding a few details.

“There have been some conversations about [starting in] maybe October, maybe a little later,” Grammer said, via The Talk. “We’re in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of Frasier, and it looks pretty good.”

The latest update comes one year after Grammer first broke the news on a Frasier reboot. In July 2021, he told WNBC New York that the first episode will tackle the topic of Martin Crane, played by John Mahoney, who passed away in 2018.

Grammer also said the show will be set in a new city. The last one took place in Seattle, with Frasier Crane having moved from Boston, the character’s original location on the smash-hit Cheers. In Seattle, Crane was a radio psychologist, offering advice to wayward souls on the air.

“Frasier’s going to move town; he’s going to change cities again,” Grammer said at the time. “There’s some surprises here. He’s like the George Bailey of television… he thinks he’s going to go off and do one thing, and sure enough, his life takes him in another direction – and he ends up rich beyond his dreams.”

That interview was the last time we heard anything about the other cast members as well. Grammer said that the producers had approached stars David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin to reprise their roles as Niles, Daphne and Roz, respectively. At the time he said: ‘It is my hope that everybody comes back. It always was my hope because it’s a third act for everybody.‘”

Bottom line: Frasier is nearing a return. So break out the tossed salad and scrambled eggs.
