Holding the role of founder and CEO of a tech behemoth isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.

Just ask Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook fame.

“It’s almost like every day you wake up and you’re, like, punched in the stomach,” Zuckerberg said on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Other than that, it’s a barrel of laughs.

But seriously, though. Zuckerberg said he wakes up to “a million messages,” and therefore tries to make sure to get in two hours of exercise every day because of it.

“Now I need to, like, go reset myself and be able to kind of be productive and not be stressed about this,” he said.

As for running as part of his routine … forget it. Zuckerberg said he instead focuses on performing mixed martial arts or even surfing.

“I used to run a lot, but the problem with running is you can think a lot,” he said, and runners everywhere likely gave a hearty amen.

And thinking and outside noise aren’t things on which Zuckerberg prefers to place his focus. Instead, he appears to be more fixated on growing his business. He actually used Instagram as an example.

“You don’t want to be so closed that you’re not listening to criticism because then you’re not going to grow,” he said during the interview. “But I think finding people and outlets that will provide criticism, but from a place of actually trying to help you grow rather than tear you down, is very rare.”

Of course, Zuckerberg does have some things other than exercise that help him decompress. After all, he and his wife Priscilla Chan recently celebrated their 10th anniversary.

The couple has two daughters and shares a ranch where Zuckerberg said he is enjoying some downtime. That is, of course, when he’s not trying to make sense of a million messages.
