A Michigan doctor has been found dead under the ice of a frozen pond five days after he was reported missing. Dr. Bolek Payan, a physician at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, was discovered by divers near his home, per the Blackman-Leoni Public Department of Safety.
“After not locating anything on land, holes were cut in the ice of a pond on the property yesterday and divers located Dr. Payan’s body under the ice today,” the BLDPS said in a statement on early Tuesday.
Payan was last seen alive on Dec. 23, when security cameras at his home revealed he left through the front door. Police gained access to the cameras following Christmas weekend.

At first, police searched for Payan’s property on foot, along with drones and K-9 dogs.
Payan’s vehicle was located on at his residence, police said, noting he did not have any contact with co-workers or his employer immediately prior to his disappearance.
“Detectives believe Dr. Payan would have been deceased, prior to when he was reported missing, due to the weather conditions on the day that he left his residence and the fact that he was in the water,” authorities said, via People.
Payan specialized in psychiatry and graduated from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017, per his staff bio. The BLDPS noted that The Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy as well as a toxicology test to further aid the investigation.
“We would like to thank the Jackson County Dive Team, Michigan Search and Rescue, J-DART, the neighbors, and the public for their assistance during this incident. Our thoughts are with Dr. Payan’s family and friends,” BLDPS stated.
