Interstate Shutdown Led To Heavy Traffic

The entire highway north of Exit 51 was closed down as drivers were forced to endure heavy traffic.

Jerel Raphael Brown, 39, of Montgomery, was arrested in his white Cadillac Fleetwood after crossing the state border into Alabama. The arrest occurred hours after a driver whose vehicle was shot by gunfire around 6:56 A.M., called 911, reporting a black man driving an older white Cadillac. Mr. Brown was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and first-degree criminal damage.

Another victim was life-flighted to a hospital in Montgomery after police responded to the scene around 6:15 A.M. Another motorist was tending to the man’s gunshot wound.

A third shooting in Montgomery on Wednesday morning may or may not be related to the two I-85 shootings. Police are still investigating what happened.

Still Unclear If All Three Shootings Were The Same Person

Meanwhile, Jerel Brown is in custody along with his Cadillac.

Witnesses who were driving along the highway reported being scared. Imagine witnessing gunfire on the highway and it’s not even 7 A.M.

“I was coming up and saw a lot of law enforcement, unfortunately, walking, and a canopy over one of the vehicles,” William Brand said. “It is very concerning, road rage, it’s crazy out there like that.”

Taylor Newton, who was driving South, said the string of shootings was scary. “Hopefully they’re gonna find the person or the people that are responsible,” she divulged. “I’m glad to see that there were so many cops out there. There were quite a few people on foot and in cars, so I guess they’re doing all they can.”

The shootings are currently being investigated by the FBI, the GBI, Auburn Police, Troupe County Sheriffs, Montgomery Police, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to call the tip line 334-246-1391 or the Auburn Police detectives at 334-501-3140.
