When it comes to weight loss, it really does seem to boil down to calories in vs. calories out. If you just follow that rule, the pounds can come off.

One personal trainer said he proved this by eating nothing but pizza, and plenty of it, for 30 days. And he still lost weight he claimed.

The trainer, Ryan Mercer, claims to have eaten 10 slices a day each day for 30 days. He gave up all other foods –with the exception of sneaking in some fruits and vegetables — in an effort to prove that if the goal is simply to lose weight, it doesn’t matter what you eat. All you really need to do is to figure out how many calories are required for weight loss and stick to it.

Mercer proved his point, making pizza and pizza alone his food of choice.

“I aimed to highlight not only fat loss about calories in and calories out but that it’s also not about restriction,” he said, via Food NDTV. “We don’t have to restrict our favorite foods to get results and I also wanted to encourage more people to prepare their own food.”

Now, before you get too up in arms, just know that Mercer isn’t the first to prove this theory. Back in 2016, a professor at Kansas State University nutrition professor ate nothing but junk food for a month and lost 27 pounds.

At the end of the experiment, the professor had also decreased his cholesterol by 20 percent and reduced triglycerides by 39 percent. In that study, the professor feasted on Little Debbie snacks, Twinkies, Oreos, and cereal as the staples of his diet. But he made sure to keep his calorie intake at 1,800 a day — as opposed to his normal 2,600 a day.

Back to Mercer. He didn’t really have any variety. It was pizza all day, every day, for a month.

“Pizza is one of my all-time favorite foods, so I enjoyed eating it all month, although I did ensure I had a large variety of different pizzas to give myself some variance,” he said. “I had two pitta pizzas and one larger dough-based pizza per day, this equated to roughly 10 slices per day.”

Mercer went on to explain that he kept his daily calorie intake at 1,800 to 2,100 calories a day. On the weekends, he would up that to 2,700.

One other thing — he made sure his protein intake was at about 140 grams a day. But 10 slices of pizza with pepperoni, chicken or beef should about cover that.

While Mercer wasn’t suggesting that everyone try this, he did prove his point. And that’s if you figure out the calorie intake needed to lose weight, and stick to it, you can lose weight while still enjoying your favorite foods.

For most of us, that’s a truth that can be deliciously accepted.
