When Robin Williams died in 2014, Sarah Michelle Gellar took a step back from her career. She had co-starred with Williams in The Crazy Ones and needed time to reflect.

“I’ve been working my entire life. When I had kids — and it was right after Robin passed away — there was just so much going on in my life and I just said, ‘I need to take a break,’” Geller told People.

Gellar, 45, portrayed Williams’ daughter in The Crazy Ones, which ran on CBS from 2013-14. Williams died by suicide at the age of 63 on Aug. 11, 2014. It was later revealed the late actor suffered from anxiety and depression. After examination of his brain tissue, medical experts suggested he suffered from “diffuse Lew body dementia.”

The sitcom served as his final role.

Robin Williams’ Final Role

Sarah Michelle Gellar, of course, is perhaps best known for her role in the cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But she said it was her role on The Crazy Ones, and time with Williams, that inspired her to take a step back with her own kids — daughter Charlotte Grace, 12, and son Rocky James, 9.

“I need to be here for these early formative years of my kids’ life,” she told People. “I needed that break to be the parent that I wanted to be.”

Alas, Gellar has returned in a fairly big way, as she is set to star in the Paramount+ drama Wolf Pack. She indicated it was the right role at the right time.

“It’s about working with people that I really love working with, where I look forward to spending time with the people,” said Gellar, who had to travel to Atlanta to shoot the series. “I want everyone to have a good time because look, acting’s fun. We’re creative, and yeah, sometimes the nights are really long, but what we get to do is really cool.”
