Austin Butler Pays Tribute to Lisa Marie Presley: ‘Eternally Grateful’

Austin Butler paid tribute to Lisa Marie Presley after her death on January 12, 2022. The actor and singer, who starred in Elvis Presley’s biopic Elvis, released a statement to People, saying “I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared.”

“Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered,” he continued.

Butler and Presley had a close relationship, with both often sharing photos of their time together. They had appeared together at the Golden Globes a few days prior to her death, where Butler won best actor in a drama. Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley happily cheered him on for his performance. In his acceptance speech, Butler thanked the family for “opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me.”

“Lisa Marie, Priscilla,” he continued, “I love you forever.”

Presley, who was known for her powerful voice and her ability to blend rock, country, and blues, was a beloved figure in the music industry. Her death has left quite a void in the hearts of her fans and family.

On Thursday, she was rushed to the hospital due to a cardiac arrest and died later that night. Her mother, Priscilla, released a statement to People announcing her death, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I will share the devastating news at my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.”

“She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment,” Precilla continued.

Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind Elvis, also released a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Lisa Marie Presley and send our condolences and sympathy to her children, family and people around the world who loved her,” they noted.  “She was an invaluable partner and truly lovely person who we will remember as a devoted mother, beloved daughter and loving friend.”
