The newest ad for Blake Lively’s bubbly mixer brand, Betty Buzz, is bound to stir some memories. Lively, who is an actress and the creator of the sparkling mixer, appears in a commercial that imitates old-fashioned, rugged beer ads. The commercial, which makes its debut during the 2023 Puppy Bowl, also stars her spouse, Ryan Reynolds.

Lively spoke to PEOPLE saying, “as a 90s baby, The Super Bowl is less about football and more about commercials with beer and Clydesdales. We couldn’t afford the Super Bowl …or the Clydesdales… but we could afford the beer …sort of, ginger beer. No, there’s no alcohol. Just fresh delicious chunks of ginger in an electrically sparkling base. The point is, I’m running a start up here. See you at the Puppy Bowl…”

Although Reynolds doesn’t physically appear in the ad, he provides the voice of a charismatic “cowboy narrator,” who guides viewers on how to drink Betty Buzz’s ginger beer. In the video, he begins with a hushed tone, saying “Introducing Betty Buzz ginger beer.”

Betty Buzz Does Beer

As he explains the drink’s “bold taste,” bottles of the beverage are shown glittering on screen, while white horses run in the background – a parody of traditional beer commercials. “The fresh ginger taste with just the right balance of spice,” he states.

“Sip it, down it or enjoy it on its own — perfectly sized bubbles,” he continues.

Lively then appears on camera, dressed in a red flannel shirt. Through the grainy visual, viewers can see the actress opening the bottle with her mouth and pouring the liquid into a glass.

As Reynolds continues to captivate viewers with his description of the ginger beer’s effervescence, Lively begins to down the entire glass in one gulp.

“Pair it with rum. Pair it with tequila. Pair it with whiskey. Pair it with anything – especially your mouth,” Reynolds states.

The actress revealed it took three years of development before launching Betty Buzz in September 2021. The brand offers five different flavors: tonic water, sparkling grapefruit, Meyer lemon club soda, sparkling lemon-lime, and ginger beer. They can be found online and at selected retail stores, including Whole Foods.

The drinks can be combined with alcohol or consumed directly from the bottle, which Lively herself prefers as a non-drinker.
