So, how did the star of M. Night Shyamalan’s breakthrough thriller pull it off?

Math.

Willis’ Sixth Sense Deal Made Sick Cents

Willis apparently only wrangled an upfront payment of $14 million to star in The Sixth Sense, which came out in 1999.

However, he also reached a deal in negotiations that granted him 17 percent of the film’s global box office gross, as well as additional rights to its home video sales. And that was back when home video sales actually mattered.

The Sixth Sense made about $293 million in the U.S. and $379 million elsewhere around the globe, for a total of $672.8 million, according to Box Office Mojo. The movie reportedly had a budget of $40 million.

At the end of the day, Willis reportedly made about $120 million for his starring role in.

“The risky business move has placed him at the top of the lists for the highest paid film roles of all time, an unexpected twist that rivals that of the film itself,” according to TheRichest.com. “The magic of the decision and their risky investment deals paid off, leading to future collaborations between the director and actor including Unbreakable and Glass.”

Willis’ Wife Says She Is Suffering Too

Emma Heming indicated she is suffering along with her husband Bruce Willis, diagnosed with aphasia back in April.

“This was the summer of self-discovery — finding new hobbies, going out of my comfort zone and staying active,” Heming wrote in an Instagram video.

“My grief can be paralyzing but I’m learning how to live alongside it.”

Heming, 44, has been married to Willis, 67, since 2009. He is perhaps best known for the Die Hard franchise. Though he has starred in multiple other well-known films, including Hudson HawkPulp Fiction12 Monkeys, and Sin City.
