Per Entertainment Weekly, Reeves and Warner Bros. are teaming up for a Constantine sequel, 17 years after the release of the first.

“I would love to be John Constantine again,” Keanu Reeves told Stephen Colbert last year. “I’ve tried.”

John Constantine is a chain-smoking exorcist and demonologist from DC’s Hellblazer comics series. While he’s flawed, he’s also viewed as a hero.

For the new installment, Akiva Goldsman will serve as screenwriter and is also producing alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella. Francis Lawrence directed the first back in 2005 and will do so again for the sequel.

“We wanted to make… a hard-R sequel,” Goldsman said at the San Diego Comic-Con. “I think we’d probably make it tomorrow. Yes, we tried a lot of different ways to find… it was always to the studios who made it, which were Village Roadshow and Warner Bros. It was always a little bit of a feathered fish.”

Constantine was originally released in 2005 and directed by Lawrence. The film followed Reeves as an exorcist with the ability to communicate with half-demons and half-angels in their “true forms”. He can also travel between Hell and Earth. The film also features Shia LaBeouf, Rachel Weisz, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Tilda Swinton, Dijmon Hounsou, Peter Stormare and Gavin Rossdale.

After its release it grossed $230.9 million worldwide, with a production budget between $70 to $100 million.
