While the actress hasn’t disclosed the reason for her split from boyfriend Max Minghella, she confirmed the end of their relationship in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. Although she may not have found her happily ever after with the Babylon actor, she’s hopeful for the future.

“I do sense I’m in another transformation phase right now,” she told the interviewer, “Sometimes you can just feel you’re growing another layer.”

The Maleficent actress also revealed that she hasn’t given up on love, referring to herself as a “hopeless romantic.”

“Call me crazy, but I believe in those things. I feel that it’s my destiny,” she said. Fanning also mentioned that she’d love “to have kids.”

Elle Fanning Is Moving On Post-Breakup

The celebrity couple met in 2018 when Elle Fanning took on the lead in Teen Spirit, which was written and directed by Max Minghella. Both stars had nothing but good things to say about the other’s work on the film. In fact, the director said of Fanning’s role, “It’s a lot for one person, and she just handled everything with such discipline and professionalism and she never complained.” He also claimed that the project would never have been completed without the actress.

Despite their 12-year age difference, Fanning and Minghella and became great friends, eventually making their relationship public at the 2019 Met Gala. Although the duo kept the details of their romance out of the spotlight, rumors started circulating earlier this year that the pair was most likely bound for the altar.

“Nobody would be surprised if Max proposes soon,” sources told Us Weekly in January 2023. “Elle would most likely love that too, but he’s keeping those cards close to his chest.”

Now, the recently single actress finds herself open to expanding her professional repertoire. She told Harper’s Bazaar, “Maybe if I want to direct something, or try something else, I can make it happen – there’s no time like the present to turn your ideas into something tangible.”

Elle Fanning will also be returning to the screen as Empress Catherine II in season 3 of The Great, available on Hulu on May 12.
