All Hugh Jackman needed was a little push, and now, he will return to the role of Wolverine.
And that push came from no less than fellow actor Ryan Reynolds. It came in the form of video from Reynolds, with Jackman in the background.
Reynolds was actually talking about Deadpool 3, scheduled to hit theaters in September 2024. The actor is speaking from his couch, and Jackman just happens to walk behind him, fairly quickly, but also nonchalantly. As Jackman begins to walk up the stairs, the conversation begins.
“Hey, Hugh. You wanna play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asked.
“Yeah. Sure, Ryan,” Jackman replied walking up the stairs.
And with that, Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You begins to play in the background.
Now, keep in mind that Jackman had announced his retirement from playing the Marvel character back several years ago. He last portrayed Wolverine in 2017’s Logan.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to Star in Deadpool
Jackman’s appearance in the video came after Reynolds spoke sarcastically about the next Deadpool flick.
“I’ve had to really search my soul on this one,” Reynolds joked. “His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, new motivation, new meaning. Every Deadpool needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside and I… have nothing. Yeah… Just completely empty up here and terrifying.
“But we did have one idea.”
So Jackman is back, man. For a lot of fans of Deadpool, Reynolds, Jackman and Wolverine, that can only be considered a good thing.
