A lot of people wouldn’t mind being Hugh Jackman right now, and not just because he’s a rich and famous actor.

But also because Jackman is getting to eat a lot of stuff. As in 6,000 calories a day. In fact, not only is getting to eat it, it’s basically required of him for his upcoming role in Deadpool 3, again starring the always-notable Ryan Reynolds.

Granted, Jackman isn’t likely eating junk food. Far from it. But he needs to add the type of bulk that is required of his role as Wolverine. That means lots of calories and lots of time hitting the weights, as indicated by Stephen Colbert.

“It’s 6,000 calories,” Jackman said about the amount of food he’s consuming daily. “It’s about 6,000 calories a day. At the moment I’m building up, I’m like four and a half, 5,000 calories a day.”

All of this is done carefully, with dieticians and nutritionists and healthy food choices, of course. That’s basically how every celebrity prepares for a role. You diet to fit the part. And it’s certainly not a first for Jackman.

“I wore a heart rate monitor [while starring in The Music Man] as Harold Hill because my trainer said, ‘I need to know what I’m working with here, because I’m trying to bulk you up.’ I burned 1,500 calories in the show, eight times a week,” Jackman said. “So (my trainer) goes, ‘Oh, you gotta eat.’ So I was eating four-and-half thousand calories a day. … It was not pretty. … Now I’m just eating and training.”

Jackman, 54, has starred in the X-Men franchise, as well as The Greatest Showman, The Front Runner and most recently, The Son. There has been no release date yet for Deadpool 3.
