Porn Star Ron Jeremy Committed to State Hospital

Ron Jeremy, the star of multiple adult films, has been committed to a mental hospital in California after being found incompetent to stand trial on rape and other charges.

Jeremy, 69, can be held at the state hospital for two years, according to Los Angeles District Attorney spokesperson Greg Risling, via the New York Post. Jeremy’s real full name is Ron Jeremy Hyatt, court records reveal.

Prior to the sentencing, Jeremy pleaded not guilty to 30 counts of rape and other sexual misconduct incidents that allegedly took place over a 30-year period in Los Angeles. Much of it stemmed from incidents involving his prowess in the adult film industry, prosecutors alleged.

“When he was arrested two years ago, I said he would be found innocent of all charges,” Stuart Goldfarb, Jeremy’s attorney, told the Associated Press in an email in January. “Two years have passed and with the additional discovery I received, I believed he would have been found innocent. It is unfortunate due to mental condition he will not go to trial and have the opportunity to clear his name.”

Jeremy has been in jail since 2020, when he was arrested.

Through an email obtained by The Times, LA County Deputy District Attorney Paul Thompson stated that mental health experts that were enlisted by both Hyatt legal team and prosecutors determined his condition, saying there was no evidence that he was faking.

“As a result of the agreement of the experts, the defendant will be declared incompetent to stand trial … his prognosis for improvement is not good,” Thompson stated.

“If he does not improve, we will not be able to try him for his crimes because criminal proceedings are suspended as long as he is incompetent,” he continued. “We also cannot get a guilty plea from him or discuss other measures to get justice for the victims in this case.”
