Shelley Duvall Reveals Big Plans for Hollywood Comeback After ‘The Shining

A prominent Hollywood staple is planning her return to the big screen. Shelley Duvall, 73, is looking to recultivate her acting career. This comes after a rather notable and heartwrenching exit from the public eye.

With her role in The Shining as well as other prominent leads in films like Manna from Heaven. She’s done quite well for herself, with awards spanning from Peabody to Emmy to the British Academy, but now, Duvall is keen on starting up her acting career once again.

New Beginnings

Her newest film The Forest Hills is set to hit theaters sometime this year. The movie follows a man that is being anguished by nightmares. They began after head trauma that he endured while hiking in the Catskills.

Duvall’s got her eyes on the prize. The actor mentioned Jessica Tandy’s accolades, quoting how she “won an Oscar when she was 80. I can still win.”

When Duvall finished Manna From Heaven, she left Hollywood for a more private lifestyle. Rumors spread surrounding the reasons why, including whispers about the actress’s mental health. One moment, in particular, was Duvall’s questionable interview on Dr. Phil. She did make a comment about the financial realities of Hollywood life. “You don’t get paid much–just scale plus 10 percent.”

A Safe Return

She also mentions that being an actress took time away from spending quality moments with her family and loved ones. She actually mentions this as one of her “really important reasons” for leaving the spotlight. A step back was a chance to get “in touch with” her “family again.”

Now, back in the fold, Duvall praises the acting life. “Acting again–it’s so much fun. It enriches your life.”
