Needed Rest

Butler has revealed that he was hospitalized after he wrapped on the film. “My body just started shutting down the day after I finished Elvis,” he shared with People on the red carpet at the SAG Awards.

“I had a week of downtime, where I actually ended up in the hospital,” Butler said. “I didn’t get sick the entire time I filmed but the day I finished, I ended up in the emergency room. So, I spent a week in bed and then I went to this other job.”

He mentioned the hospitalization briefly in a sit-down with GQ in May 2022, describing how the virus he had felt very similar to the pain of appendicitis. He woke up “at 4 in the morning with excruciating pain.”

More Incredible Performances

Austin’s next performance will be in the Dune sequel alongside Zendaya, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Timothee Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, and Rebecca Ferguson. The film is still in pre-production at the moment and the storyline has yet to be released.

An Apple TV+ miniseries called Masters of the Air will feature an appearance from Butler. His role and the storyline for the series haven’t been announced either.

Praise for Austin’s performance continues to pour in. He has secured a Golden Globe, an AACTA Award, an AACTA International award, a BAFTA award, and a People’s Choice award. Since then, he has been featured on several talk shows and a hosting gig on Saturday Night Live.
