In the event you miss the concept of raunchy movies, fear not, kids. A new American Pie is apparently headed your way.
Those of you old enough to remember the original — released in 1999 and starring Jason Biggs — know that it’s ruled by turning coming-of-age drama into little more than a bunch of crass jokes.
But it worked. So why not try it again?
Actress and director Sujata Day confirmed her involvement with the project on Instagram, clearly exciting fans of the Pie franchise. Day is writing and developing the new installment.
“Obsessed with raunchy comedies and American Pie is one of my all-time faves!” she wrote.
The first American Pie tells the comedic tale of a group of high school who make a pact to lose their virginity before graduation. Yes, that’s basically the entire plot.
And it resulted in the movie taking in more than $235 million worldwide, and a spinoff franchise and some sequels. That’s as American as it gets, really. The movie starred Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Sean William Scott, and more. The actors really helped define the genre of films in the late 90s and early 200s.
Per Women and Hollywood: “Plot details haven’t been released, but we’re guessing that it’ll be a female-led pic with a more inclusive cast.”
