The reboot of the 1991 romantic comedy Father of the Bride has reportedly set a new streaming-only film record for HBO Max. It hit the streaming service on Thursday, June 16th.
For the first four days after the Father of the Bride reboot was launched, it was the No. 1 title across HBO Max around the world. Not only was the movie the No.1 title around the world, in Mexico it is in the top ten of most watched titles ever on HBO Max.
The final numbers aren’t available yet, but the streaming service has confirmed to NBC News in an email that it set a new streaming-only film record for HBO Max.
Singer and actress Gloria Estefan, who stars in the reboot, tweeted out over the weekend that Father of the Bride was among the top fives movies in several Latin America countries. It was No. 1 in Mexico, No.2 in Argentina, No. 3 in Brazil, No. 3 Chile and No. 4 in Colombia.

As Entrepreneur points out the film’s, “focus on family ties and the merging of cultural traditions successfully attracted viewers, and the release coinciding with Father’s Day weekend no doubt gave it an extra boost.”

The reboot was directed by 39-year-old director Gary Alazraki. He is the writer and director of Mexico’s record breaking comedy Nosotros los Nobles. He also co-created, executive produced, and directed Club de Cuervos, which is Netflix’s first original series in Spanish.
Alazraki heads Alazraki Entertainment, a production company focused on high quality entertainment for audiences in Latin America and Hispanic USA. The production company is based in Mexico City.
