According to Today, the Latin pop singer repudiated any romantic relationship whatsoever with the nephew, whose name is Dennis Yadiel Sanchez.

“Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges,” the singer reportedly said through a statement that his attorney provided. “Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew.”

The statement continued: “The idea is not only untrue, it is disgusting,” he continued. “We all hope that this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But, most of all, we look forward to this awful case being dismissed as soon as a judge gets to look at the facts.”

Where is all of this coming from?

Ricky Martin could spend up to 50 years in prison in his homeland of Puerto Rico. Last week, a judge there issued a restraining order against Ricky Martin.

Initially the reports on domestic violence did not name who alleged Martin of the crimes. The complainant recently became known after Eric Martin — one of the singer’s brothers — revealed it to be Dennis Yadiel Sanchez. Sanchez is the offspring of another one of Ricky Martin’s siblings.

The singer allegedly abused his nephew during a relationship they supposedly had for seven months. Puerto Rico’s laws include harsher penalties for incest, which is why the potential amount of time Ricky Martin may spend in prison became apparent after the complainant lost his anonymity.

Sanchez will answer questions before a judge when the trial begins on Thursday. Ricky Martin alleged his innocence in a tweet he posted on July 3, saying the allegations are false.

“I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterize me,” he said. “Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity, and I receive them with all my heart.”
