A drunk man exposed himself and urinated on a woman in her 70s during an Air India flight. The plane was traveling from New York to Delhi, India. Worse, the flight crew completely dropped the ball in helping the poor elderly woman. She called it the “most traumatic flight I have ever experienced.”

Elderly Woman Was Peed on as She Was Falling Asleep

The news was reported by Asian News International on January 3rd via a lengthy Twitter thread. The flight in question occurred on November 26, 2022, and left from JFK International Airport. After Air India crew failed to adequately care for the woman, she filed a complaint with Natarajan Chandrasekaran, a chairman for Air India.

According to the Indian Express, the woman was falling asleep in her chair a couple of hours into the flight when she was urinated on. It was just before lunch and the lights on the plane were off.

After the inebriated man peed on her, the elderly woman complained to the crew.

“My clothes, shoes and bag were completely soaked in urine,” the woman wrote in her complaint. “The stewardess followed me to the seat, verified that it smelled of urine, and sprayed disinfectant on my bag and shoes.”

“The bag contained my passport, travel documents and currency, among other items, and I wanted to immediately check the safety of the contents,” the complaint continued. “I asked the stewardess to help me retrieve my bag, but she initially refused to touch the bag, and also told me to pick up my shoes and clean them myself in the bathroom.”

It seems the Air India crew helped a little bit but could have done much more considering the circumstances. After all, a paying customer had just been urinated on mid-flight. Eew.

Air India Flight Attendants Tried to Put Passenger Back in Soiled Seat After She Was Urinated On

“When I started cleaning my own bag, then she began to assist,” the complaint read. “I was given a set of pajamas and disposable slippers to change into. After changing, I stood near the toilet for about 20 minutes. I asked for a change of seat but was informed that there were no seats available.”

According to NDTV (via Daily Star), the elderly woman was given a crew seat for about an hour. Then she was told to return to her original seat. Although flight attendants had put sheets on the seat, it was still wet and “reeking of urine.” After refusing to do so, she was put in another crew seat for the remaining 5 hours of the flight.

“I subsequently learned from a fellow passenger that several seats were available in First Class and he suggested to the crew that I be moved into one of those rather than being forced to sit in a soiled seat,” the woman wrote in her complaint.

“Clearly, the crew did not feel that taking care of a distressed passenger was a priority.”

She had also been promised a wheelchair in order to exit the plane more quickly but was not provided one.

The airline filed a police report over a month after the incident, prompting criticism for the delay. The passenger has been banned for at least 30 days from the airline. Additionally, the Delhi Police stated that the man would be booked for “molestation” and “indecency.”

As a side note, Air India is hiring female cabin crew (see above). If you live in New Delhi and think you could have dealt with this situation better, now is your chance.
