After Doritos Loco Success, Taco Bell Has New Partner For A Cheezy Crossover

Adding popular snack items to their menu is nothing new to Taco Bell. They successfully added Doritos to their tacos back in 2012. The Doritos Locos Tacos were so popular when they were added to the menu that Taco Bell had to hire more employees and setup new production lines at the Doritos taco shell factory.

Taco Bell sold over 500 million of the Doritos Locos Tacos within a year of their launch. The fast-food company is testing new menu items with another popular snack item. They’ve partnered with Cheez-It for a couple of new creations.

“We’re thrilled about this new concept with Cheez-It, which gives our fans the chance to experience the real cheese and crunch they love from both of our brands in a whole new way,” said Taco Bell’s chief food innovation officer, Liz Matthews.

The second new Taco Bell menu item is the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme

One new menu item is called the Big Cheez-It Tostada. It features a giant Cheez-It, which is 16 times the standard size, topped with ground beef, sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce and cheddar cheese.

The second new Taco Bell menu item is the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme. It has all of the ingredients that the regular Crunchwrap Supreme has, which includes ground beef, nacho cheese sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. The only difference is that instead of the internal tostada shell the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme contains a giant Cheez-It.

The Big Cheez-It Tostada costs $2.49 while the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme is selling for $4.29. The two new menu items will be available for the next two weeks at a restaurant in Irvine, California.

Asked when the rest of the country might see it, a Taco Bell spokesperson said, “As with any test item, there’s no guarantee it will be available nationwide, but when it comes to Taco Bell innovation, we never say never.”

Taco Bell regularly tests new menu items

Taco Bell, which is based in Southern California, regularly tests new menu items before making them available at their other locations. Last year, for example, they tested a plant-based protein made of peas and chickpeas.

A successful new partnership with another popular snack food company could prove to be very beneficial for Taco Bell. The Doritos Locos Tacos are still going strong.
